Services
Shine On Auto Detailing will happily tailor a detail exactly how you want it, to suit your needs and budget. To help give you an idea of what’s typically involved for the three most popular areas to address (Exterior, Interior and Engine) the information below sets out what would be covered as standard, along with a guide to how it’s charged.
The prices represent a Protection Detail, without any paint correction (i.e. swirl/scratch removal), using Swissvax Saphir wax as the standard finishing product. For an upgrade to a higher grade Swissvax wax, the supplemental prices are below.
An ordinary “polish” simply polishes a paint surface shiny while the lower layers of paint get dryer and “starve”. Swissvax restores valuable oils of the original paint finish. These essential oils, such as cinnamon, avocado and vanilla, used as carriers for the wax, give these products their wonderful aromas and create a swirl-free gloss. In fact it is this exclusive formula which creates a glow that goes beyond normal perceptions of “shiny”.
Each Swissvax container is still blended and poured by hand. The rare, natural ingredients used in Swissvax do not allow an industrial production. The same standards are applied to all Swissvax products, whether it be trim dressings, leather cleaner, rubber seal feed, they are all made to perform way beyond the alternatives.
Treatments
Exterior Only Protection Detail
- Exterior bodywork, together with door and boot shuts treated with a citrus based pre-wash, then rinsed. Tar spots will be removed from lower panels.
- Exterior is then carefully hand washed, rinsed and dried with a soft microfibre drying towel.
- Where necessary, further cleaning is carried out using either chemical paint cleaner or automotive clay to remove contaminants bonded to the paint such as tar, brake dust, metal fragments and industrial fallout.
- Wheels, tyres, and arches cleaned before being dressed with suitable products, including a sealant on alloy wheels to help resist brake dust from sticking.
- An acrylic glaze is used to prepare the paint for the application of a wax or sealant, improving the depth and wetness of the paint colour in the process.
- Exterior glass cleaned, plastic and rubber trim dressed, metal polished.
- Finally a high quality wax or sealant is applied, depending on your specific requirements and vehicle colour.
Exterior and Interior Protection Detail
As Exterior detail, plus the following.
- Vacuum interior, including boot, and remove any litter.
- All plastic trim, and vents dusted, then cleaned and dressed where appropriate.
- Leather upholstery (where fitted) cleaned and conditioned.
- Glass cleaned, including interior mirrors.
Exterior, Interior and Engine Detail
As Exterior and Interior detail, plus:
- Engine bay degreased and rinsed, including bonnet shuts and slam panel.
- All plastics dressed using a non-greasy product that will help to prevent fading cracking of plastic & rubber components.
Paint Correction (swirl removal)
In most cases, a car can benefit from some degree of machine polishing to correct and improve the paintwork. That means using a suitable abrasive polish to gently reduce or remove the swirls, scratches and oxidation that detract from the potentially beautiful finish on your car. Every car is different, and the price to carry out this work will depend on the make of car, year of manufacture, paint colour and it’s current condition. In an ideal world I would like to view every car to quote it first, but thanks to the distances often involved, this simply isn’t practical.
So, when you get in touch for a quote, have a good look at your car and decide which would best describe it. Try to be as honest as possible, I am occasionally faced with a situation where a car is described as having ‘just a few light swirls’, and quoted accordingly, but arrive to find it much, much worse! Not only can this effect the time taken to complete the job, but it may well effect the price too.
Pricing
I essentially offer three different types of detail, all of which are quoted on an individual basis. But to give you an idea, they are split into the following catagories;
Protection Detail.
As described in the process set out above. This is an ideal choice as a top up following previous paint correction work to maintain the protective products on the car, or for any car that does not need any polishing. Through a careful cleansing process, and reapplication of your chosen wax, you will be left with a gleaming, easy to maintain finish.
I would typically allow 4+ hours, prices start from £200.
Enhancement Detail (New Car Detail).
In addition to the regular thorough clean, your car will benefit further from a single stage machine polishing paint correction process. By using a modern polish with advanced abrasives, light marks an swirls will be reduced, and often removed, whilst at the same time restoring a brilliant gloss to the finish. The polishing is very gentle to the paintwork with minimal removal of paint, so this is a process that can be safely repeated many times. It is ideal for new cars that often need an expert finish to really bring out their best, or as part of your regular detailing schedule to maintain an ‘as new’ finish. The frequency will be dictated by the care the car receives during it’s regular wash process, but this is a popular once or twice a year treatment for many customers.
This is the most popular choice of Detail and never fails to show a significant improvement to a car, even straight from the dealership.
Assuming a regular sized car (i.e. not a large 4×4 or similar) I would allow a full day to carry out this work, prices start at £300.
Correction Detail.
If you are looking for as close to perfection as possible, a Correction Detail is the only choice. Again following the same preparation stages as a Protection Detail, the paintwork is then subjected to a multi-stage machine polishing process to remove every mark that can be safely, before burnishing the paint to impart a brilliant gloss. This is a much slower process, and depending on the type of paint being worked upon, will often need a significantly more aggressive approach. The results of this process can be staggering, with seemingly ‘past it’ paintwork being revived to look better than new, but it is a process that should be carried out infrequently to protect the long term integrity of the paint. Both Protection and Enhancement Details are ideal as subsequent maintenance treatments.
Typically this work will take 2 days to complete, possibly more depending on the vehicle and its condition, prices start at £500.
The standard wax applied is Swissvax Saphir. Also available are upgrades to Best of Show, or the flagship product, Divine. The applicable surcharge is as follow:
| Vehicle Size | Saphir | Best of Show | Divine |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small / Medium | £0 | £50 | £100 |
| Large / Very Large | £0 | £70 | £120 |
The benefit of the higher grade waxes is twofold. As the carnuba content of the wax increases, so does the depth of shine and durability of the product. For specific information on the waxes, please see the ‘Products’ section.
Travel.
All prices based on being within 20 miles of RG26 postcode (using Google Maps). Beyond this, a charge of 25 pence per mile will be made for the round trip, less 40 miles. Should the journey time be more than two hours in one direction, or if it is a 2 day booking, an overnight stay may be necessary, and chargable. Should this be the case, inexpensive accomodation would be found locally, and this would be investigated at the time of booking.
Please note all prices stated here are a guide only and are subject to change.
Making a booking.
A deposit of £75 per day is required to secure your booking. This can be paid by cheque made payable to ‘Shine On’, or if you wish to pay by credit/debit card, an invoice will be emailed to you which can be paid following the instructions through Google Checkout. In the instance of a cancellation made no later than 7 days before the appointment, a full refund will be offered. Within 7 days, no refund will be made. If your booking is cancelled due to bad weather, I will endeavour to rebook you as a priority for another day convenient to yourself. If a satisfactory date cannot be found, I will refund your deposit in full.
Payment is to be made upon completion of the work, without exception, unless previously agreed otherwise. I am happy to accept a cheque, or cash.
