Protection detail for a Ferrari Enzo

As one of just 400 examples ever built, this striking 2003 Ferrari Enzo was in need of a protection detail, and after a recommendation via Swissvax UK, myself and a colleague attended to carry out the work.

Being shown the car sat in the garage, it was a nice to see it already clean, being a dry weather car and not put away dirty. The job of moving it out into the sunshine fell to me, at which point we were both handed a shock. After climbing into the minimalist carbon fibre and leather interior, the gullwing door still aloft, I inserted the ignition key then thumbed the starter button on the steering wheel. A brief but piercing high pitched whirr from the starter gave way to the loudest noise I’ve ever heard this side of an F1 car! We both jumped with the shear violence of the noise, the garage filled with explosive crackles from the 6.0 litre naturally aspirated V12 and an intoxicating aroma of unburnt fuel as it settled to a fast, busy sounding idle.

As my colleague escaped outside to save his hearing, I swung shut the door and located the button necessary to slightly raise the nose of the car, enabling me to move it outside. Once in position, I switched off the engine and sat for a moment rather shell shocked in the silence!

Getting on with the detail, a little dust was removed from the paint using a reduced water wash solution, then dried. The paint was in need of correction, but Enzo’s are known for their rock hard, yet thinly painted carbon panels, so that will wait until another day.

Using a very mild clay to remove a few contaminants from the paint, such as tar, we then cleansed all the surfaces using Swissvax Cleaner Fluid. This made a noticeable improvement to the car’s appearance on its own, and once finished the Divine wax we applied only acted to further enhance and lock in that shine.

While the wax cured in the sunshine, Bryan cracked on with applying Cleaner Fluid, then Autobahn wheel wax to the alloys as per the usual routine. I opted to open the rear clam and give the magnificent engine a tidy up too.

Looking around the car, I noticed the air scoops at the front are so low they tend to suck everything off the road and into the grills. Using a soft brush and a vacuum, I removed all the bits of leaves, twigs and sweet wrappers that had accumulated there.

Wax cured, we buffed it off to a brilliant shine, along with the wheels. The interior was also vacuumed, glass cleaned and tyres dressed. Before tucking it back into the garage, we took a few photographs of this splendid machine.

Testimonials

“I would definitely recommend anyone to use Shine On regardless of marque, Paul is a genuinely nice bloke who has the rare attributes of actually loving his job and doing it to the best of his ability (bordering on OCD). I personally plan to use this service at least every 8months to keep the cars looking at their best.
And to top it all off…..even my wife commented on how and I quote ‘amazing’ it looked, that testimony alone is worth its weight in gold!
