Warning, very brightly coloured Lotus Exige S!
This detail was in preparation of the car’s appearance on the South East Lotus Owners Club (SELOC) stand at a show the following weekend. A daily driven example, this supercharged S2 Exige is in the rare and very distinctive Krypton Green colour. Used as it should be, it also does it’s fair share of track miles too, all in the loving hands of its owners James & Nikki.
Just before the detail, it had completed a trip to Le Mans and the Nurburgring with the resulting harvest of tar and rubber all over its flanks the most impressive ever seen. Here is the car at the start of the detail.
Using the usual routine to wash the car, a couple of hours were then spent with tar removing fluid, then a clay bar to get all the mess off, particularly concentrated around the sills and the flat vertical rear of the clamshell.
Finally clean, the paint work was polished to remove the light swirling evident all over. Experience has shown this is a very difficult colour to photograph defects on, so there are none of this stage.
It had been decided to use finishing products from the excellent Chemical Guys range, so I applied two layers of Jetseal 109, including the alloys to help protect them, and left the second layer to cure while I collected James and Nikki from their office nearby. Upon returning to the car the sealant was buffed off and a layer of 50/50 Connossieur Paste Wax applied. This combination of products always gives great results both in terms of durability, and a lovely glossy wet look to the paint. While the wax cured, trim & tyres were dressed using New Look Trim Gel, glass cleaned and panel gaps cleared of polish & wax residue. Finally the wax was buffed off to reveal a stunning finish, the owners delighted with the results.
I had the pleasure of following the car for a short distance on the way out, and in the sunshine the glow from the very bright Krypton Green paint was amazing.
